Where It All Began

The day I walked into Brandon’s life was a typical day in the life of Anna. I had waited until the last possible day to get my car inspected in order to renew my license plates. Since my brother works at a dealership I called him and asked if he could have one of his guys do it for me really fast. Of course, since my brother, Adam, would do anything for me, he told me I could come in and he would get it done for me.

Let me set the scene of Adam’s workplace for you and give you a little history before I continue on with this story. My Uncle Terry is the general sales manager of this #1 dealership in Missouri. He has worked there for over 30 years and my entire family has always bought vehicles from there. I have practically grown up around all the sales guys, and my uncle has always warned me to stay away from them because salespeople are a bunch of bull shitters and are not to be trusted (coming from the biggest B.S.er I know, by the way). When I was old enough, the sales guys would always give my uncle crap about dating me, and he let it be known right then and there that I was off limits. All the sales guys that valued their jobs knew to back off. Well my brother started working there and quickly became one of the top salesmen, and I would go in to visit him from time to time and just like my uncle, Adam wouldn’t tolerate any of the heckling about me from his co-workers. So it was safe to say, because of this standard these two set, I would never date any guy from there.

Fast forward a few years, and I am rushing into the store looking for my brother. I B-lined to his desk and didn’t really pay attention to anyone else or even make my rounds saying hi to all of the sales guys like I usually do because I was in such a hurry to get this done so I could go get my license renewed and I could meet a girlfriend for drinks on the patio. It was a gorgeous day that day so I had my cute coral maxi dress on (this favorite dress of mine plays a key role in our story). Adam and I leave and I meet with the car inspector, it passed, and I was on my way, without even the slightest idea that my urgent need to have my car inspected changed my life forever!

Apparently when Adam returned, the newest salesman, Brandon, went up to my brother with a HUGE smile on his face and asked “Who was THAT!?” Adam responded, “That was my sister, you back off”. Without hesitation, Brandon walked away not saying a single word and that was that…for a day or so. ☺

Adam and I were at home having dinner with our parents and brother a few evenings later and he very slyly mentioned, “ A new guy at work asked about you the other day.” Of course, that strikes my fancy immediately, and I started asking a million questions. He told me he wasn’t going to tell me his name because he knew I would immediately facebook stalk him, but he did dish that all the girls at work thought he looked like Dr. McSteamy from Gray’s Anatomy…I don’t know if he thought that that would deter me from wanting to know more, or what, but with that being said I JUST HAD to get his name. Adam finally gave in a told me so ran to the computer and Facebooked him. Much to my despair, his profile was set to private ($&#!) and his profile picture was some scenic photo he took while hunting. Although I was upset I couldn’t see for myself first hand what he looked like, I was glad it atleast wasn’t a picture of him in a mirror showing off his abs-guys like that suck. Haha. So I dropped it.

Adam, for never really wanting me to date guys from his work, was inadvertently playing Cupid because he went back to work and told Brandon that he told me that Brandon was asking about me and that I got excited about it. Adam, trying to make it look like I played it cool didn’t mention I tried facebooking him- THANK GOD.

Well my cousin, Kelly, who also works there (Yes- I feel like my entire family works/has worked there at one time) told Brandon that they should look me up. Since I have my name disguised it took them a bit to find me, but when they did, Kelly took it upon himself to request my friendship. Brandon still swears to this day that Kelly pushed the friend request button, that it wasn’t him, Im still not so sure about that. Regardless I get the friend request, and this is how our first conversation unfolded:

I was excited to become friends with him because I was able to see what he looked like. I , up until that point still had no idea what he looked like. I couldn’t believe that I didn’t notice him that day I walked in!!

A few nights later we decided to meet up at a local brewery. My girlfriend was working that night, so I was just sitting at the bar waiting for him to get there. He shows up with his wingmen and we had a blast talking, drinking, getting to know each other, and surprisingly it wasn’t awkward at all. He joked with me that it was the dress that caught his eye. That, and the fact that I was wearing dark grey granny panties underneath that were showing through. Don’t worry, that wasn’t embarrassing at all!!!!!

We started dating exclusively shortly after this and spent the beginning of summer getting to know each other, having a blast going out and meeting each other’s friends and families,, shooting guns and fishing (Brandon’s favorite things to do), meeting each other during his lunch breaks, having fun date nights, camping in his backyard, watching live music and so so much more! By the Fourth of July we became an official relationship on facebook which is something we both never really cared about but we were just so happy that we wanted the whole world to know.

It was one of the last weeks of summer and my best friend, Sara, was in town so the three of us, and one of mine and sara’s friends from college decided to go out. It was a night full of sarcasm, friendly insults, lots of drinking, dancing, and all around shenanigans. At the end of the night , we left the bar full of energy from having such a great time, and were walking down the alley. I was already 100 feet in front of everyone else because all I could think about was getting to the hot dog stand on the corner. Brandon and Sara were finding my comments about needing a hot dog like there was no tomorrow hilarious and that’s when it happened. Brandon looked over to Sara and said “ I LOVE that girl” I stopped dead in my tracks, spun around and said “YOU SAID WHAT!!?” This was coming from a guy that had a hard time using the word “Love” in everyday sentences. By then, it was obvious that we had both fallen hard for each other after a wonderful summer romance.

Its so surreal looking back and realizing how our paths came to cross, that everything that happened to us prior to meeting each other was just leading us to one another. Some would call that fate, and I completely agree. There was a much bigger purpose behind me needing my car inspected, one that I didn’t see coming, but one that I am so happy I didn’t overlook. They say that everything happens for a reason, and I am true believer in this. Whether it was an inspection or fate that brought us together, the important thing is that we are in each other’s lives now and for that I am truly blessed and thankful for that.
